The present study approaches the importance of the emotions in the achievement of learning, analyzing the perception, comprehension and emotion regulation levels and their relationship with the academic performance in students of Nurse Technician in a in a professional level. Recent research in neuroscience has shown the importance of the encouragement of positive emotions in the development of the lessons since it stimulates learning and memory. Besides, emotional intelligence has been associated with academic and professional success in Health Sciences students. For this reason, the objective of this study was to analyze the connection between the emotional intelligence dimensions and the academic performance of first year students of technical careers in the healthcare field, in the elaboration of pedagogical strategies to foster the perception, comprehension, and emotion regulation. To achieve this goal, a survey was applied to 79 first year students, its questions were about socio demographic information along with the TMM-24 test (Trait Meta-Mood Scale). Next, the results were correlated with the students’ performance in three subjects. The data was analyzed through descriptive and correlational statistics by the “The Spearman rankorder correlation coefficient” and connections between both variables were identified, standing out a negative one between an exorbitant level of the emotion perception and the performance in one subject (r=-0.228, p<0.05), namely, an excessive and constant concern about the emotions affects in a negative way the academic performance in the subject. On the other hand, a positive relation between the comprehension and performance in the same subject was found in a class (r= 0.532, p<0.05). Thus, a suitable accuracy on the emotions affects in a positive way the academic performance. Nevertheless, it is necessary to inquire again these variables in future research, and to progress in the socioemotional development in students of the technical field of Health, Sciences.
