Ítem Anxiety disorders in chilean adolescents: a study of their relationship with multidimensional poverty at the regional level(Antena Editora, 2025-02-04) Moya, Patricia; Toro Huerta, Carol; Vidal Gamboa, Carolina; Sierra Novo, SofíaIntroduction. Anxiety in adolescents is a common emotional response, but when it becomes chronic, it can have a significant impact on their well-being and development. Factors such as stress, social relationships and family pressures can trigger it, while poverty can aggravate it, creating an even more challenging environment that negatively affects their emotional development. Objective. To analyze the rate of low control of adolescents admitted for Anxiety disorders in the Mental Health Program in Primary Care in Chile during the period 2013 to 2022 and its relationship with Multidimensional Poverty at the regional level. Materials and Method. Ecological study in adolescent beneficiaries of FONASA (National Health Fund), who register being under control in the Mental Health program in the period 2013-2022 for diagnosis of Anxiety Disorders (AT). The rate of adolescents under control was estimated according to sex, region and year per 1000 beneficiaries and regional average multidimensional poverty. Percentage variation (PPV) between 2013 and 2022 and rate ratio (RR) were calculated to evaluate differences by sex. Results. During the study period, 7 out of every 1000 adolescents in the country are under control in the Mental Health Program due to AT, being 2.4 times higher in females than in males (RT = 2.376, 95%CI: [2.21-2.54]). All regions experienced an increase in the rate of AT, except Valparaíso. Araucanía had the highest percentage of population living in multidimensional poverty (24.9%), followed by Atacama (23.1%) and Tarapacá (22.5%), with no relationship with the AT rate (p=0.206). Conclusion. The results show a significant increase of adolescents under control for Anxiety Disorders, being 2.4 times higher in women and generalized at national level. No statistically significant relationship was found between multidimensional poverty and anxiety disorders, suggesting that other factors could be influencing their development.Ítem Anxiety levels in dental students of a private university in Chile(Atena editora, 2024-10) Moya, Patricia; Ponce Ibáñez, Nicolás; Zamorano Vidal, Sebastián; Caro Cassali, Juan Carlos; Araya Godoy, Catalina; Guerra Barnachea, NayaretIntroduction: A career in dentistry is characterized by high demands both academically and psychologically. In addition to the demands of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, working with patients can also provoke high levels of anxiety in students. Added to this scenario is the context of the COVID-19 pandemic experienced by students. Objective: To determine the levels of anxiety in dental students at a private university in Chile. Material and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in dental students in the first to sixth years of the course. Informed consent to participate was requested prior to the application of the instrument. Anxiety levels were measured with the Zung Anxiety Scale. In the statistical analysis, the anxiety levels of the students were described according to sex (male/female), course (first to sixth year) and dimension (affective and somatic). The study was approved by the Scientific Ethics Committee of the University. Results: 175 students agreed to participate in the study, 75.4% of them were women. Eighty-four percent of the dental students showed some level of anxiety, with minimal to moderate anxiety being the most prevalent. The mean score obtained was 45 points (SD 9.8). The level of anxiety was higher in women and in the first year of the course (p<0.05). Conclusion: High levels of anxiety are reported in dental students, with significant differences by sex and course. It is suggested to implement strategies to address this situation, considering that it is a risk factor for the academic performance of the students.Ítem Instruments for measuring anxiety in dentral students: A bibliometric analysis(Journal of Oral Research, 2025-05-05) Zamorano Vidal, Sebastián; Caro, Juan Carlos; Ponce Ibáñez, Nicolás; Moya, PatriciaIntroduction: Mental health, and anxiety in particular, is a critical area of research among dental students. The dimensions and sources of anxiety within this population are diverse. Bibliometric tools offer a quantitative approach to evaluating the current status and development of research on these topics. Objective: To conduct a bibliometric analysis of scientific articles available in PubMed that reference the instruments used to measure anxiety in dental students between 2003 and 2023. Material and Methods: A unique search strategy was used in PubMed (("Anxiety" [Mesh] AND"Students" [Mesh])) AND (“School of Dentistry" [Mesh] OR "Dentistry" [Mesh]), with MeSH termsand Boolean operators defined in advance. Inclusion criteria applied were articles publishedin English between 2003 and 2023. Data collection was carried out in November 2023. Results: Fifty-one articles were identified that met the search criteria. The most commonly used instrument for measuring anxiety was self-developed, accounting for 37.7%. A total of 56.9% of the articles were published in Q2 journals, with the Journal of Dental Education being the one with the largest number of publications. Brazil led in the number of individual studies, representing 15.7% of the sample; however, Europe, as a continent, accounted for 37.8% of the research output. Conclusions: Anxiety is increasingly becoming an important issue in dental practice. A considerable proportion of studies uses self-developed instruments, with approximately onethird of them lacking validation. Furthermore, there is a significant number of publications in Q2 journals.
