Educación presencial versus educación en línea en pandemia. Comparación de resultados entre dos cursos de pregrado en medicina

Abstract
Antecedentes: Las medidas sanitarias impartidas el año 2020 debido a la
pandemia de Coronavirus Disease 2019 obligaron a las instituciones de educación
médica a nivel mundial a modificar la modalidad en que se impartían las actividades
teóricas y también a innovar respecto a las evaluaciones, migrándose desde un
sistema netamente presencial hacia las actividades en línea, dentro del contexto de
emergencia. En la Universidad Diego Portales, en la carrera de Medicina, se generó
entre el equipo docente y directivo una incertidumbre respecto de si la nueva
modalidad era válida y comparable con los años anteriores.
Objetivo: Comparar el rendimiento de los estudiantes de la asignatura Salud de la
Mujer que usaron el modelo en línea el 2020, con los que usaron el modelo
tradicional el 2019, en la Universidad Diego Portales.
Metodología: Consiste en una investigación de tipo observacional, con enfoque
cuantitativo, de alcance correlacional, con una finalidad de estudio analítica y
temporalidad transversal. En esta se comparan los promedios finales de dos
generaciones, dentro de la misma asignatura.
Población: Las muestras se obtuvieron de dos grupos: el primero corresponde a la
generación 2019, realizada bajo el modelo de educación tradicional y el segundo a
la generación 2020, que recibió educación en línea en contexto de pandemia, en la
asignatura Salud de la Mujer del quinto año de la carrera de medicina.
Resultados: La distribución de ambos grupos resulta similar, lo que los hace
comparables. Se demuestra que no existen diferencias significativas al comparar
los promedios finales de la asignatura entre ambos grupos.
Backgrounds: The sanitary measures implemented in 2020 due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic, forced the medical institutions worldwide to modify the modality in which theoretical activities were taught and to innovate regarding evaluations, migrating from a purely in-person system to online activities, within the emergency context. At the Diego Portales University, in the Medicine career, uncertainty was generated among the teaching and management team regarding the validity of this new modality and if it was comparable with previous years. Objective: To compare the performance of the students of the Women’s Health subject who used the online model in 2020, with those who used the traditional model in 2019, at the Diego Portales University. Methodology: This is an observational study, with a quantitative approach, a correlational scope, an analytical purpose, and a transversal temporality. It compares the final grades of two generations, within the same subject. Population: The samples were obtained from two groups: the first one corresponds to the 2019 generation, carried out under the traditional education model, the second one to the 2020 generation, which worked with online education in the context of a pandemic. Both groups correspond to the subject Health of the Woman in the fifth year of medical school. Results: The distribution of both groups is similar, which makes them comparable. It is shown that there are no significant differences when comparing the final grades of the subject between both groups.
