This critical essay describes my artistic practice during this year, which delves into the perceived futility of art and my conflict as an artist in a society that values utility. Inspired by Dadaism and the ready-made, I have crafted rudimentary works using recycled materials, particularly corrugated cardboard. Taller 9 is an ephemeral structure I built at the School of Arts at the Universidad Finis Terrae, aiming to challenge the lack of spaces for degree projects. More than a permanent and stable installation, Taller 9 has evolved, hosting various events and exhibitions. This essay explores how uselessness can transform into an asset, sparking reflections and critical discussions on university art education and the value of art in general. Taller 9 emerges as a space that challenges perceptions of uselessness and contributes to the student environment by providing artistic spaces.
