Abstract

This is an essay that examines the relationship between art and illness, with the aim of putting the author's experience into perspective in relation to the social understanding of illness, so that it does not become a mere personal narrative. It seeks to accompany artistic creation, to reflect on why or how it is transmitted, what choices are made in this process with regard to materiality and the need to connect with it. In this way, it understands the problem of representation in works of art, especially when it comes to collective imaginaries and how concepts are linked to each other in order to create shortcuts and reach conclusions in an easy way. In the same way, it explores the need to understand the multiplicity of experiences that can occur in similar contexts that are valid, complementary and enriching for the community, in order to understand a spectrum beyond the stereotypical. To this end, it was decided to create an installation consisting of X-rays, medical furniture and a prosthesis made from scrap metal.
