Resumen

"Background: The skull base plays a key role in craniofacial development, thus helping to integrate different growth patterns, both spatially and functionally, with respect to various regions adjacent to the skull, such as the components of the brain, nasal cavity, oral cavity and the pharynx. This could affect facial morphology or biotype and the anteroposterior relationship of the mandible with respect to the maxilla. Objectives: Compare the skull base angle between skeletal class II and III patients with anterior and posterior rotation. Materials and Method: A cross-sectional analytical observational study was carried out. Steiner's cephalometric analysis was drawn on teleradiographs to obtain the dimensions of the skull base and the anteroposterior relationship of the maxilla with the mandible. Using Image J software, the points (N,S,Ba, A, B, Go, Gn, ENA and ENP) and the planes formed by the union of these points were located. Subsequently, the measurement of the N-S-Ba, ANB, EPA/ENP and Go/Gn angles was obtained, in order to classify them into skeletal class and facial biotype. Results: The lengths of the skull base angles of Class II patients with posterior rotation compared to Class III patients with anterior rotation did not show statistically significant differences. Discussions and Conclusions: It was not possible to find statistically significant differences in the relationship between the cranial base angle of skeletal Class II patients with posterior rotation versus skeletal Class III patients with anterior rotation."
