Resumen
Antecedentes: Las lesiones cervicales no cariosas (LCNC) son defectos de la estructura dental en el límite amelocementario (LAC) y motivo de consulta prevalente. La dentina es el tejido dentario más abundante, sus túbulos se biomineralizan producto del envejecimiento aumentando su translucidez. La descripción morfológica de las LCNC desde una perspectiva histológica y anatomopatológica es actualmente escasa. Es importante reconocer la morfología y composición dentinaria de las LCNC para planificar tratamientos restauradores.
Objetivos: Analizar histológicamente la translucidez dentinaria en LCNC a través de observaciones microscópicas y caracterizar digitalmente los tipos de dentina en LCNC mediante análisis de umbral de color.
Materiales y métodos: Se analizaron 44 especímenes con LCNC mediante desgastes mesiodistales en el eje axial que fueron observados sobre fondo negro mediante microscopía de epi-iluminación. Se analizó digitalmente la dentina mediante el plug-in Threshold Colour para ImageJ.
Resultados: La translucidez de la dentina se expresó histológicamente como dentina transparente (41%), opaca (95%), transicional (98%), afectada por la reacción de Maillard (84%) y en dentina con alteraciones por la ingesta de antibióticos (11%).
Discusiones y conclusiones: Las LCNC son entidades heterogéneas en las cuales los niveles de translucidez dentinaria presentan distinta distribución en cada espécimen.
Background: Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL) are defects at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) of the tooth and constitute a prevalent chief complaint. Dentin is the main mineralized component of the tooth structure, its tubules mineralize as a consequence of ageing, increasing its translucency. A morphological description of NCCLs from a histological and anatomopathological point of view is currently scarce. Is important to recognize the morphology and composition of the NCCL’s dentin in the restorative treatments planning. Objectives: Histologically analyze the dentinal translucency present in NCCLs through microscopic observation and the digital characterization of the dentinal types of NCCLs using colour thresholding analysis. Method: Forty-four specimens with NCCLs were analyzed after axial mesiodistal abrasion, observed over a black background by means of epi illumination microscopy. The dentin was analyzed using the Threshold Colour plug-in for the ImageJ software. Results: The dentin translucency was expressed histologically as transparent (41%), opaque (95%), transitional (98%), affected by Maillard reaction (84%), and altered by antibiotic intake (11%). Discussion and conclusion: NCCLs are heterogeneous entities in which the dentinal translucency levels present a different distribution among each specimen.
