Comportamiento de la atención odontológica de la gestante en la red pública de salud en Chile, años 2018 al 2020

Objective: Analyze the characteristics of dental care for pregnant women in the public care network of Chile, years 2018 to 2020. Methodology: Cross-sectional descriptive study based on data from the Monthly Statistical Summaries (REM) of the Chilean Ministry of Health (MINSAL). It was studied as a characteristic of the dental care of pregnant women in the public care network, information on admission and discharge to care, number of teeth with caries and present periodontal status. A descriptive analysis of the variables studied by year of study was performed. This study has the approval of the Scientific Ethics Committee of Finis Terrae University. Results: Around 79% of pregnant women enter comprehensive dental care, this value being 79.19% in 2018 and 79.53% in 2019. However, there is a significant decrease in 2020 with 51, 90%. Expenditure values fluctuate between 68.83% in 2018 and 70.21% in 2019. In 2020 it drops to 23.22%. Regarding the number of teeth with caries, it was observed that approximately 70% have 5 or more teeth with caries and only about 6.5% do not have caries. The proportion of pregnant women without periodontal disease was similar in 2018 and 2019 with 89.50% and 86.24%, respectively. Unlike the year 2020, which was only 13.56%. Conclusions: About 70% of pregnant women who enter comprehensive dental treatment in the public health network manage to finish their treatment, however, a high prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease is observed. These results show that the Explicit Health Guarantee (GES) is fulfilled, but poor oral health conditions still persist, so it is recommended to continue working on oral health promotion and prevention.
