Entre 1932 y 1942 operó en Chile la Editorial Ercilla. Su ingreso al mercado editorial vino acompañado de un considerable
aumento en la producción de libros, modernización y adquisición de nuevas maquinarias, así como el establecimiento de un circuito
de traslado y venta de libros desconocido para el mercado chileno. Este artículo analiza la transformación empresarial de la Editorial
Ercilla. A partir de informes, publicaciones y memorias, se examinan las ideas que motivaron al directorio para transformar su
empresa de una Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada a una Sociedad Anónima. El artículo identifica tres momentos centrales
en el desarrollo empresarial de la editorial: la estructura administrativa en sus inicios, la posterior búsqueda de inversionistas para
satisfacer la creciente demanda de libros en Chile, y los problemas laborares, crediticios y de competencia que causaron la quiebra.
Between 1932 and 1942, Editorial Ercilla operated in Chile. Based on reports, publications and memoirs, it examines the ideas that motivated the board of directors to transform their company from a Limited Liability Company to a Corporation. e article identifies three central moments in the business development of the publishing house: the administrative structure in its beginnings, the subsequent search for investors to satisfy the growing demand for books in Chile, and the labor, credit and competition problems that led to bankruptcy.
