La transformación empresarial de Editorial Ercilla. De Sociedad Anónima a la quiebra (1932-1942)

Abstract

Between 1932 and 1942, Editorial Ercilla operated in Chile. Its entry into the book market was accompanied by a considerable increase in book production, modernization and acquisition of new machineries, as well as the establishment of a circuit for the transfer and sale of books unknown in the Chilean market. is article analyzes the business transformation of Editorial Ercilla. Based on reports, publications and memoirs, it examines the ideas that motivated the board of directors to transform their company from a Limited Liability Company to a Corporation. e article identifies three central moments in the business development of the publishing house: the administrative structure in its beginnings, the subsequent search for investors to satisfy the growing demand for books in Chile, and the labor, credit and competition problems that led to bankruptcy.
