The massification of higher education has led to an increase in the enrollment of new student profiles, of which first-generation students are one. These students present their own characteristics, such as the fact of permanence and abandonment of higher education compared to other students. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the relationship between the social, cultural and economic capitals of first-generation students and their intention to drop out of a private university. It is a descriptive and inferential study in which a survey created by a private university was analyzed online, performing both descriptive analyses of the variables and regressions. The results show that there are relationships between capitals and the intention to drop out, where social and cultural capital are the best predictors of the intention to drop out of first-generation students. Based on the results, there is a need for policies that encourage the permanence of students based on social relations and that allow them to obtain tools for their integration and permanence in the university; in addition, research is required that considers the differences between genders of students.
