Abstract
La magnífica biblioteca del Instituto de Gestión Sanitaria (INGESA) alberga una gran cantidad de documentos relacionados con la salud y la gestión sanitaria de España, además de confluir en ella la historia de dos grandes bibliófilos, los marqueses de Portugalete y de Riscal (Duque de Bailén) El edificio INGESA fue construido en 1946 y ha servido como oficinas para tres instituciones. Este emblemático edificio se encuentra en la calle de Alcalá, en el centro de Madrid, entre la Puerta de Alcalá y la Plaza de Cibeles, cerca del Parque del Retiro. Muchos palacios importantes habían sido construidos en esta área; sin embargo, a principios del siglo XX, algunos de ellos fueron demolidos para hacer espacio para mejoras bajo nuevos planes municipales. El edificio INGESA se encuentra en el sitio del demolido palacio Portugalete. Hoy en día el Instituto de Gestión Sanitaria (INGESA) ocupa este espléndido edificio. Elementos del antiguo palacio de Portugalete se han conservado en su interior. La estructura actual acomoda los estándares actuales de seguridad y construcción. Algunos pisos han sido renovados para mejorar la seguridad y la estética.
The magnificent library of the Institute of Sanitary Management (INGESA) contains a large number of documents related to the health of Spain, in addition to bringing together the story of two great bibliophiles, the Marquis of Portugalete and the Marquis Riscal (Duke of Bailén). The INGESA building was built in 1946 and has served as offices for three institutions. This emblematic building is located on Calle de Alcalá in downtown Madrid, between the Puerta de Alcalá and the Plaza de Cibeles near the Parque del Retiro. Many important palaces had been built in this area; however, in the early 20th Century, some of them were demolished to make room for improvements under new municipal plans. The INGESA building is on the site of the demolished Portugalete palace and it has a magnificent library. Today the Institute of Sanitary Management (INGESA) occupies this splendid building. Elements of the former Portugalete Palace have been preserved within. The present structure accommodates current security and construction standards. Some floors have been renovated to improve safety and aesthetics.
