The university degree in medical technology in Chile has a solid scientific- humanistic basis; in sync with Higher Education Institutions that apply the model focused on professional skills for their training and optimal performance in the labor market; However, the professional's tendency is to occupy the healthcare field with emphasis on procedural competencies, omitting the potential of the attitudinal and cognition component of clinical processes as a tool for professional performance. Objective: The objective of this study is to know the meaning that the process of detecting malignant lesions suggestive of breast cancer represents for mammography medical technologists during the year 2023. Methodology: The methodology used is qualitative and has a phenomenological descriptive design. Through the use of the colaizzi methodology, and in logic with the stages of intuition, analysis and description, it is possible to reveal the meaning of the phenomenon. Results: The results showed extreme feelings associated with the stage of breast cancer in which the patient is; in addition to the need to use generic skills when treating mammography patients; All of this identifies the mammography medical technologist, making the practice of his profession a rewarding experience. Conclusions: It is concluded that the phenomenon of detecting lesions suggestive of breast cancer is a satisfactory experience. The mammography unit demonstrates the fully competent profile of the medical technologist. More qualitative research is suggested with emphasis on diseases with a health impact.
