Abstract
El presente trabajo aborda el proceso de conformación y caracterización que tuvo el Hip Hop en Chile entre 1984 y 1990. El movimiento surge debido al fenómeno de la globalización y a los diferentes canales de información, como lo son el cine y la televisión, pues dieron a conocer, principalmente a través del baile, la existencia del Hip Hop. Sus integrantes son mayoritariamente jóvenes los cuales construyen una identidad individual y colectiva a partir de su marginalidad socioeconómica y/o etaria. El movimiento construyó un carácter crítico y confrontacional en plena dictadura militar, motivo por el cual sus integrantes utilizaron las herramientas brindadas por el Hip Hop para establecer una serie de críticas enfocadas principalmente en los abusos cometidos por las instituciones gubernamentales. El Hip Hop chileno suele ser caracterizado de antemano como un movimiento social, pero esta afirmación suele ser atemporal y/o sin fundamentación alguna. En este trabajo es comprendido, dentro del periodo de estudio, como un nuevo movimiento social en desarrollo, puesto que, si bien configuró una cultura propia, una identidad colectiva y una serie de estructuras organizativas, fue incapaz de concretar una estrategia y objetivos comunes.
The present work approaches the process of conformation and characterization that Hip Hop had in Chile between 1984 and 1990. The movement arose due to the phenomenon of globalization and the different channels of information, such as cinema and television, which made known, principally through dance, the existence of Hip Hop. Its members are mostly young people who build an individual and collective identity based on their socioeconomic and/or age marginality. The movement built a critical and confrontational character in the midst of the military dictatorship, which is why its members used the tools provided by Hip Hop to establish a series of criticisms focused mainly on the abuses committed by government institutions. Chilean Hip Hop is usually characterized in advance as a social movement, but this statement is usually timeless and / or without any basis. In this paper it is understood, within the period of study, as a new social movement in development, since, although it configured its own culture, a collective identity and a series of organizational structures, it was unable to concretize a strategy and common objectives.
